Support Int 1070 to bring Low Traffic Neighborhoods to NYC
Write to your elected officials in support of LTNs for safer, more people centered streets.
New York City has an opportunity to roll out a proven approach to making our neighborhoods safer, quieter, and more livable. Intro 1070 would establish a Low Traffic Neighborhood pilot in five neighborhoods across the city.
Most New Yorkers don’t drive every day, yet residential streets across the city are often filled with cars cutting through neighborhoods on the way somewhere else. Low Traffic Neighborhoods (LTNs) prevent cut-through traffic while maintaining local vehicle access and parking.
With less cut-through traffic, residential streets can become places to walk, bike, play, gather, and spend time with neighbors. They can mean quieter blocks, safer crossings, more space for trees and green infrastructure, and streets where people feel comfortable lingering, not just passing through.
LTNs are already being used in cities around the world, and NYC now has an opportunity to learn from those examples and test what works here.
