Our streets and curbs are chaotic and unsafe. We see it every day: illegally parked and double-parked cars creating traffic and dangerous conditions for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike.

Despite this, illegal parking is rarely enforced. Vehicles can illegally sit in bike lanes, the travel lane, and loading zones with impunity. Realistically, there isn’t enough traffic enforcement on the ground to go around.

However, we know the solution to this problem: automated enforcement. We’ve seen the success of speed cameras, red light cameras, and bus lane cameras. It’s time to start managing illegal parking with automated enforcement.

For New York City to begin an automated enforcement program at the curb, we need approval from the state. With S8665/A5440, sponsored by Senator Julia Salazar and Assembly Member Steven Raga, we’d be able to run such a program. And in the City Council, Res. 141 in support of S8665/A5440 signals important City support.

Send a letter to your State and City representatives and let them know the chaos at the curb needs to end, and we need automated enforcement now!
