Open Plans: Transforming the streets of NYC to be truly livable

[browser link available in email]

Dear [first-name],

February probably isn't most people's favorite time of year. It's been cold for so long and spring seems so far off. One of few holidays is Valentine's Day? Which is not universally loved. But these days I love February and those late-winter feels, because that's when we hold our annual Public Space Awards at Open Plans.

Last year, I was blown away by the warmth and energy of this event. The room was full of New Yorkers, from all walks of life, who are making an impact on the city's public realm. Open Streets organizers talked with environmental justice students; local business leaders mingled with artists and performers. It felt like magic, conjuring the connectivity of New York's diverse street life all at this one event. And we're doing it again this year on Thursday, February 29th.

The event doesn’t just bring people together; we’re honoring seven people and groups with awards like Neighborhood Champion and Most Inspiring Neighborhood Vision. If you want to feel more connected to community, to your neighbors, to the heart of New York, this is your ticket.

Literally! You can buy your ticket for this year's Public Space Awards today. Let's bring a little warmth, light and love into the winter season. Hope to see you then.

Sammy's Law in NYS budget

Op-ed: To build more housing, build less parking

NYC developers are finding that the parking minimums required for new buildings make it much harder for them to build desperately needed new housing. We must lift these zoning rules for the city's future.
