Dear [first-name],
Things feel like they're thawing (if only temporarily) in New York City, and it's inspiring a flurry of activity! Last Thursday we hosted our second annual Public Space Awards - we want to thank everyone who joined us and made it such a fun night. If you missed it, you can still snag this cute sticker sheet that declares your love of public space while supporting the work we do to help make more of it!
The New York Times dove into cycling safety and congestion pricing this week, quoting our Co-Executive Director Sara Lind in both stories. Sara urged transit officials to ignore the "small but loud opposition and frivolous lawsuits" against congestion pricing. “As congestion decreases, we have the opportunity to reclaim space for people.” We can't wait.
The push for universal daylighting gained more steam this week when Community Board 7 in Manhattan became the TENTH board to pass a daylighting resolution. As StreetopiaUWS's Carl Mahaney said, “Improving the crosswalk experience really resonates with New Yorkers. We all use them." Want to pass a daylighting resolution on your community board? Get in touch!
We also just finished helping 19 schools, across four boroughs, apply to have a school street starting in September. Every school is eligible. Want to get a car-free street in your school community? Get in touch!
We even took a virtual trip to Paris in the latest video roundup from Streetfilms. The city's unwavering commitment to the public realm, and the popularity of these improvements, is palpable in each video. New York City could have what they have!
And finally, if you're an undergraduate or graduate student interested in joining the fun team at the center of all this exciting activity, you have until Monday, March 11th to send us your internship application.
See you on the streets!
