• Subject: We need your help! Say NO to the Cross Bronx Expressway Expansion

Dear [first-name],

The New York State Department of Transportation proposed the Cross Bronx “5 Bridges Project,” a $900 million plan to expand the footprint of the Cross Bronx Expressway.

As members of the Stop the Cross Bronx Expansion Coalition, Open Plans supports our colleagues across numerous environmental and transportation organizations in calling on the NYSDOT and Governor Hochul to conduct the necessary bridge repairs without widening the highway.

The Cross Bronx Expressway has caused significant harm to the Bronx. We support community-led, eco-friendly solutions rather than ones that will pave the way for more cars, more traffic, and more congestion in communities that have been hard hit by environmental racism for decades.

With the recent release of NYSDOT’s Environmental Assessment for the plan, the public has until January 9th to submit comments by email for this proposal and the remaining options. You can also sign up to testify at a virtual hearing tomorrow (12/9) at 5PM or fill out Transportation Alternative’s petition. To help you prepare testimony, our coalition has assembled talking points; we encourage you to tell NYSDOT that we want sustainable, community‑led solutions—not more highways.

Let’s get this done together.

In solidarity,
Adrian and the Open Plans Team
