Open Plans: Transforming the streets of NYC to be truly livable

The Open Plans team was supposed to be in Albany yesterday. While the blizzard kept us downstate, our work did not stop! We quickly transitioned to virtual meetings and spoke with a dozen legislators' offices about how we can make our city more livable.

One of our priorities was to discuss automated curb enforcement in New York City (S8665/A5440). By enforcing the traffic laws at our curbs, we can make our streets safer and more efficient for all road users including drivers, pedestrians, delivery workers, and cyclists.

You can get involved with our efforts for safer streets in NYC—show your representatives you support better curbs by sending them a letter!

TAKE ACTION

Let's Curb the Chaos with Automated Enforcement

New Yorkers deserve streets and curbs that are safe, orderly, and work for everyone—not clogged with double‑parked cars and blocked bike lanes. State bills S8665/A5440 and City Council Res. 141 would launch and support an automated enforcement pilot for illegal parking in New York City, building on the proven success of speed, red‑light, and bus‑lane cameras to cut dangerous violations, reduce congestion, and improve air quality. Cities like Hoboken and Pittsburgh have already seen dramatic drops in blocked bike lanes and double‑parking with similar programs. Add your voice today and tell your elected officials you support S8665/A5440 and Res. 141 to curb the chaos at the curb.
