Parking mandates are a type of zoning rule that requires a certain amount of parking in each new development. As our March 2023 report showed, parking mandates negatively impact our city’s housing affordability and availability, livability, and climate. It’s time for New York to join the dozens of other cities across the country who have already lifted parking mandates to spur housing, affordability, and more vibrant neighborhoods.

The Adams administration’s City of Yes for Housing Opportunity text amendment, which includes fully lifting residential parking mandates, is currently making its way through the public review process. We must show the City that everyday New Yorkers support this policy. Tell your local Council Member and Borough President to prioritize people over cars by supporting City of Yes.
