Open Plans: Transforming the streets of NYC to be truly livable

On Monday, City of Yes for Housing Opportunity was officially referred to community boards and borough presidents for review. This is a new milestone in Open Plans' years-long advocacy for the zoning reforms, and specifically for lifting parking mandates citywide. We are one step closer to increased housing availability and affordability and denser, more walkable neighborhoods.

Things to do

🛹 Manhattan's Gotham Park, a new public space under the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge, is hosting their second semi-annual block party on Saturday, May 4th from 12pm to 5pm. Featuring skateboarding lessons & competitions, salsa music, mural painting & local food, the event is free with registration.  

 

🎨 Paint the 14th Street busway! Union Square Partnership is seeking volunteers to help paint the 4th annual street mural, designed by a local artist, between Union Square West & Broadway. RSVP for your 90-minute volunteer shift for Wednesday, May 15th. 

 

⚠️ In New York State, 52 cyclists were killed in 2023 while bike safety legislation stalled. Each bill passed one house last year. Your help is needed getting these critical bills across the finish line! Take 30 seconds to email key legislators.
